In US dollars, the lowest monthly bill on this page is Wave's Pro Plan at $19 a month, which bundles bank imports and receipts. In euros, Pennylane's Starter plan is €7 a month (about $7.82) excluding tax. The top US dollar figure is Digits at $65 a month. All nine products pull bank and card transactions in by themselves, and all nine state a monthly price for one freelancer with about 30 transactions.

The plan a freelancer needs is often not the entry plan. Wave and Zoho Books keep bank feeds off their free plans. QuickBooks Online's free plan falls short too. FreeAgent lists plans from £10 a month (about $13), but a freelancer is priced on its Sole trader plan. FreshBooks and Sage Accounting carry feeds on their entry plans but put receipt capture on a higher one.

How each feed refreshes differs. FreshBooks says a connected account refreshes daily. Zoho Books fetches statements periodically, and Digits auto-fetches them for many banks. Pennylane does not say how often its feed runs. Currency also splits the set. FreeAgent and Sage Accounting bill in pounds plus VAT, Pennylane in euros excluding tax.

| Name | What it is | Why it's here | Pricing |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Digits](https://tickmarkbooks.com/digits.md) | AI-native general ledger that books and reconciles itself, replacing QuickBooks or Xero for US businesses. | At $65 a month on Essentials, the plan Digits points solopreneurs to, this is the dearest US dollar entry here. Transactions arrive from more than 12,000 institutions through revocable tokens, for continuous reconciliation. Receipts in Vault and invoicing are included, with no per-user charge. It handles no other currencies and files no sales tax. | From $65 a month |
| [FreeAgent](https://tickmarkbooks.com/freeagent.md) | UK cloud accounting with HMRC filing, bank feeds and AI receipt capture, priced per business type. | UK sole traders pay £19 a month (about $25) plus VAT on the Sole trader plan, with bank feeds and receipt capture included and no per-transaction charge. Open Banking and API feeds cover the major UK banks. Unsupported banks fall back to statement upload or manual entry. It files your tax return but not 1099s. | From £10 a month (about $13) |
| [FreshBooks](https://tickmarkbooks.com/freshbooks.md) | Double-entry small-business ledger built around invoicing, with a read-only Claude connector for questions. | Lite costs $23 a month and imports bank and card transactions on its own. Expense tracking comes with it. The catch for a freelancer is receipts: automatic receipt data capture and bank reconciliation begin only on Plus, a higher plan. The ledger is built around invoicing clients. | From $23 a month |
| [Pennylane](https://tickmarkbooks.com/pennylane.md) | AI-native invoicing, accounting and business banking for small businesses and their accounting firms. | For €7 a month (about $7.82) excluding tax, Starter gives a sole trader account synchronization with transaction matching and receipt reading, for one user. The condition is activating the Pennylane Compte Pro. It is aimed at small businesses in France that share one file with their accounting firm. | From €7 a month (about $7.82) |
| [QuickBooks Online](https://tickmarkbooks.com/quickbooks-online.md) | Intuit's cloud ledger, now with Intuit Intelligence agents that categorize, reconcile and flag errors. | Simple Start, at $38 a month regular price, is where a solo operator lands. The free plan connects a single bank account and has no mobile app for receipts. Connected bank and card accounts sync into the ledger automatically. It files 1099s and pays bills. | Free, then $38 a month |
| [Sage Accounting](https://tickmarkbooks.com/sage-accounting.md) | Sage's cloud small-business ledger with built-in payroll and the Sage Copilot assistant; US edition retired. | Sage Accounting's UK Start plan is £20 a month (about $27) plus VAT for invoicing and bank reconciliation, with transactions imported automatically. Receipt capture waits for Standard, a dearer plan, so a freelancer who wants receipts pays more. Payroll is built in. The US edition is retired. | From £20 a month (about $27) |
| [Wave](https://tickmarkbooks.com/wave.md) | Free double-entry books for solo owners, with bank imports, receipts and payroll kept behind the paid Pro Plan. | Wave's free Starter plan has neither bank imports nor receipts, so a freelancer pays $19 a month for the Pro Plan, which bundles both. Feeds run through an outside connection provider, and Wave warns that some institutions cannot be connected. Its books are double-entry. | Free, then $19 a month |
| [Xero](https://tickmarkbooks.com/xero.md) | Small-business ledger with a JAX assistant that answers questions in plain language; unlimited users on every plan. | Early, Xero's cheapest public plan, runs $27 a month after the promotion and includes bank reconciliation and Smart Document Capture. Feeds from thousands of US banks and cards are read-only. Statements from banks that do not connect come in as files such as CSV or OFX. Every plan includes unlimited users. | From $27 a month |
| [Zoho Books](https://tickmarkbooks.com/zoho-books.md) | Cloud accounting ledger with Zia AI, bank feeds, sales tax and 1099 e-filing, from $20 a month. | Bank feeds start on Standard, not Free, so a freelancer pays $20 an organization a month billed monthly. Banks and cards connect through third-party feed providers, with email auto-forwarding and file upload as fallbacks. Zoho Books also e-files 1099s. It sits alongside the wider Zoho app suite. | Free, then $20 a month |

## What it takes to be on this list

A product is on this page when it does two things. It imports bank and card transactions by itself, and it states a monthly price for one freelancer with about 30 transactions, bank feeds and receipts. The rest of the category does one of these at most. The list runs A to Z by name, not by price. Before buying, check that your own bank connects, since several vendors name gaps in their coverage. Check which plan carries receipt capture, and whether the figure is a promotional rate or excludes VAT or tax.
